Singer/Actor Sayashi Riho-san (22) from Hiroshima prefecture
歌手・俳優 鞘師（さやし）里保さん（２２）＝広島県出身
A versatile artist, learning every day
This fall, she returned to the entertainment industry 5 years after graduating from the idol group Morning Musume at the age of 17. With a smile full of confidence, she said “I am having a lot of fun because I am learning more and more every day”.
Her first step was the musical drama “Kuro Sekai”. As the leading role, she showed a cool (comfortable, relaxed) singing voice, sharp dance moves, and an emotional performance. “My performance skills have grown, and I am experimenting, doing different things” she says, as an adult radiating charm.
She made her debut at 12 with Morning Musume, who she was a fan of since she was in Actor’s School Hiroshima, where she started at the age of 6. In January 2011, she passed the audition for the 9th generation. She was loved by the fans for her outstanding dance skills, and was known as the Absolute Ace.
But as she was approaching 20 (age of adulthood in Japan) she became impatient. She says “I think it’s important to think and act on my own to gain experience”. At the end of 2015, she left the group. She studied English at a language school, and moved to New York to continue her studies. When she had visited the city to perform with Momusu, she says “Everything felt like art.”
She took lessons with dancers from various countries. She not only learned choreography from her teachers, but she also created her own dancing style. Her idea of dance changed, which she felt in her skin.
When you live alone you have to deal with issues such as being charged too much for rent. She says that even such experiences were a source of growth “I had the chance to interact and talk with many people, and I was able to see things from different perspectives.”
After returning to Japan, she spent her time at her parents’ house in Hiroshima, as a “daughter of the Sayashi family”. “From 10 to 19 years old, I didn’t spend much time with my family, so I wanted to repay them for the support they had given me.” She wanted to know her hometown, and also continue dancing. On the other hand, she was worried that she wouldn’t have any offers.
At that time, the director of “Kuro Sekai” called and asked her to work together. “It was something that met my expectations, and valued the work I had done for 5 years”. Since then, she has been getting constant offers for musicals and tv dramas.
Singing, acting, dancing… “I want people to recognize me for all these things” she says without hesitation, and her determination as an artist is apparent.

Sayashi Riho from Hiroshima prefecture. Began dancing at ASH. In 2011 became a member of Morning Musume. Earned 820 out of 990 in the English test TOEIC. In September 2020 she resumed her performance arts career. Her uncle is Sayashi Tomoya-san, a former player and scout of the Hiroshima Carp.
