Flash - Riho Sayashi: Now I want to create something of my own

Sayashi Riho talks about the 5 “blank” years:

During the 5 years I took a break, I thought I wanted to study, and grow as a person. At the time I was 17 and I was afraid I would grow up only knowing one thing.” she says.

Sayashi Riho, the girl once known as the Absolute Ace of Morning Musume has resumed her activities for the first time since her sudden graduation from the group in 2015.

After graduating, I studied English, and moved to New York where I studied dance. After that, I just spent some time, relaxing with my family, at my parents’ house (laughs). I hadn’t decided when to return, but I felt that I wanted to mature as a person, before I did so. I wanted to be stronger as a person and more able to express myself when I returned.

I had a strong desire to grow as a person by meeting and talking to people outside the entertainment world. It may be a strange comparison, but I used to know only salt and pepper when it came to seasoning food, but I feel that I now know how to use mirin and cooking sake as well, to make food taste better. (laughs)”

What will a grown-up Sayashi do in the future?

When I returned, I performed in a concert style musical, and when I sang and danced, I felt my blood boiling. I would like to continue singing and dancing. I feel confident in the strength I developed as a performer during the 5 years I was re-charging. The feeling that I have about creating something of my own is becoming stronger every day. I’ve been exposed to different worlds, and I have been able to think more deeply than before. I want to express myself in many ways, and with confidence!”
