Various life tips
It’s getting colder, isn’t it? I (Sayashi) have tidied up my clothes, and when I am in my room, I spend my time online searching for rugs.
I have actually been searching for rugs since last year. But, while doing so, I made it safely through the winter, and I realized I didn’t need rugs in my life.
Yet, I’m still looking for one. My taste in interior design has slowly, but naturally changed with time..
You see, when I have guests, I need a rug, or they won’t feel comfortable..
When I started this column, I wrote that my hobby is everything related to lifestyle (暮らしに纏わる – kurashi ni matsuwaru), and I often get tips on life and my way of thinking from YouTube.
I am hoping to give you some specific examples of that today.
YouTube recommendations 1
First, there is a person named Aileen who has been making videos under the name Lavendaire. I think I have been watching her YouTube videos for 3 years now.
At first, it was to study English. I think I was looking for someone in an English-speaking country that was doing room tours and other videos.
I began watching her videos because she is of Asian descent, and I felt a kinship with her, plus her voice is very pleasant and her English easy to listen to. I would recommend this video to anyone working on their listening skills.
She has many videos where she gives us tips on daily living that she practices herself, and by watching the videos I have become more organized. The bright and pastel colors used in the videos are also visually attractive.
She often mentioned that she had a habit of keeping a diary, and following her example, I began keeping one myself.
But it didn’t suit me, and I stopped doing it. There are times however that my thoughts are stuck in my head. At such a time with a lot of concentration, I can write down pages of what’s in my head in my notebook.
Thoughts often take different forms, but once you write them down, they become clearer. I realized that when I begin doing it, and videos such as these were what got me started. I have been trying various things that may be helpful, and it’s really fun to incorporate them in a way that suits your personality and lifestyle.
The videos are all in English, but many of them have Japanese subtitles, so you can watch them, if you want to.

Another person I watch is ririka, whose channel is called “in living. Japanese slow life”. She is a little older than me, and very kawaii. Her interior design and fashion style is so natural.
What has impressed me in her videos is that she talks about what you need to stop doing in your life.
She focuses on the things we do and take for granted. The videos are about how much simpler it is to spend time in the kitchen once you stop doing or using things that are not necessary. I have for example been cleaning the kitchen sink drain lid more often, and it has become easier to clean.
Also, and this has been my idea, I have stopped using trash bins that stick to the floor. Instead, I use these small things (もの - “mono”, bins, bags?) that I can hang on the shelves, and by doing that I have, somehow, unconsciously stopped letting my trash accumulate.
There are so many people posting about their lives nowadays, and I love watching such videos in my free time. It’s fun!
I’ve written a lot about life, haven’t I? I feel a little embarrassed (self-conscious? 恥ずかしい - “hazukashii”) writing about it.
I hope I will write something related to entertainment next time to balance things out. I haven’t written it yet though, so I don’t know what it will be.
Finally, as I was sitting around, watching YouTube, I took this picture, and thought I should put it on my stylish Instagram lol
I wrote this column on my desk, which is firm and steady!!
Stay tuned for the next one!
